Fun “Bento Box” Lunch

Let’s Do Lunch!

My husband is a consultant and travels every once in a while for work or training. He enjoys the whole family coming with when he travels so here I am, very happily traveling. I am lucky that I have friends and family to watch the house and my zoo of pets while we are out of town.

Eating out is expensive, I don’t care who is footing the bill. And only my husband’s meals are covered, so I make sure to keep the bills down by grocery shopping in the area. I pack most lunches and cook most dinners. It works out well because our meals are slightly healthier than what you would find eating out.

Last year, my husband and I celebrated our 4 year wedding anniversary. I like to purchase traditional anniversary gifts, with a twist. Year 4 is fruit and flowers. Happily, we were on the road for our anniversary, however that meant it was hard to purchase fresh fruit and flowers for my husband. So instead I purchased him a professional lunch box from L.L. Bean that was extreamly discounted, a purple wood grain designed water bottle, and fun containers to put food in, in bento box fashion. That is where the twist is. I didn’t buy him fruit as the gift, I purchased him the container that the fruit is stored in!

(You can see I am doing this in the hotel room).

I used to bring my husband’s lunch to him in a plastic bag. It looked bad and it wasn’t efficient. The bag would rip and the food would get messed up. So this is an awesome upgrade.

The tackle box is a nod to me and my outdoor ways (as is the wood grain water bottle – purple is my husband’s favorite color). The silicone baking cups can be used to keep dry food separated, if placed in another container. It is pleasing to the eye and fun to create.

I don’t know how long my husband is going to work or if he is going to have a lunch break, so I try to pack things easy to eat, on the go and plenty of it, in case he works late.

The tackle box easily houses fruit, nuts, cheeses, a meat stick or pretzels.

I weighed out the food before putting them in the baking cups to make sure it was a serving a piece.

Add some dairy and a protein bar just in case the day runs late, and you have a fun lunch put together. It travels well too.

My husband appreciated the meal. It makes me feel good that I can be supportive throughout the work day by sending this thoughtful and healthy lunch.

Have fun with your lunches. Show someone you care! Make yourself happy when you open it up in the lunch room at work. Your child will feel special getting this lunch!

What would you put in your Bento Box lunch? Let me know below!

Have a great one, everyone!

I would put boiled eggs, cherry tomatoes, olives, and cheese in my bento lunch. Maybe swap out the eggs with almonds. Your lunch looks very pleasing.
