Sessrumnir

Well, it finally happened.  We have a puppy!

Sessrumnir; he is something.  He’s 8 weeks old, so he has that puppy curiosity and spunk, but he still sleeps a lot.  Sessrumnir is an American Water Spaniel, part of the sporting group, bred for Midwest bird retrieval – so he will be able to handle hiking in the cold.  American Water Spaniels grow to be 15-18 inches tall (at the back), weighing 30-45 pounds.  He will have either a curly coat or a marcel coat as he ages.  Sessrumnir has been adjusting well and has been exploring his boundaries.

As the weeks progress, Sessrumnir will have more energy and need more time for playing, training, and walking.  We are looking forward to him being fully vaccinated so we can explore.  There are 12 state parks on my list to visit this year and I intend on taking Sessrumnir to hike them all!  I am very excited, but also very exhausted.  Last time I had a young puppy, was in 96’ – I was a young kid!  I’ve had puppies since then – but at 4 months and 6 months old – not 8 weeks.  I remember there is a difference in these ages.

This is going to be great!  I will keep you all posted on our travels and adventures.  However, I want to get caught up with some of the other hikes I have done in the past, that led me up to wanting – needing – my hiking buddy, to get me back out exploring.  So I will post some of my past hikes as we wait for Sessrumnir to grow and get his vaccines.

Hope everyone is doing great and stay tuned for more adventures!
